Exceptional Traits of Amazing Life Coaches

Nowadays, coaching has become mainstream that many people are using the term “coach” loosely. In fact, some people even think a coach and a consultant is one and the same. However, nothing can be farther from the truth.

The word coach is derived from the Middle English word coche. It means “carriage or wagon.” A coach transports an individual or a group of people from point A to point B. It’s where the phrase “traveling coach” comes from.

Three Basic Roles of Life Coaches

Unlike mentors, life coaches have greater accountability and provide active guidance and a more hands-on approach. While coaches have different styles, in general, they have 3 basic roles.

  1. They help you take inventory – In other words, your life coach will help you accurately assess where you are at the moment.  Knowing where you are is crucial so you will know what you need to do. From there, you and your coach can also strategize accordingly. Your coach will also identify your strengths and weaknesses.  Oftentimes, it is also at this point that your life coach will identify the internal resources you have at your disposal.

  1. They will help you set goals and objectives – This is the part where you and your life coach will both decide where you want to go. You need to have a clear picture of the end result in mind. Otherwise, you will not be able to identify the steps and strategies you need to get to where you want to be.

  1. They will help you devise a strategy – A competent coach can effortlessly create a strategy so you will be able to achieve the goals and objectives you have identified.

Now that you are familiar with the basics of coaching, your next move is to find the best life coach to work with. Understandably, this is one aspect many people find truly challenging.
